Previously we talked about how the more extrinsically motivated we are, the more depressed and anxious we become.

Today we’ll talk about a simple strategy to make that shift from being extrinsically motivated to being more intrinsically motivated.

Instead of focusing on the material rewards, the pride, status, ego boost of your goal, make it about being a better someone (whatever your role is).

Instead of setting your eyes on that impressive promotion at work, why don’t you focus on being a better team member; a better boss; a better colleague; a better person do business with and to be around?

Instead of eyeing for social media stardom, why don’t you focus on being a better friend; a better neighbour; a better sister/brother, a better daughter/son; a better parent?

As you work to be a better person, not because you want anything out of it, but because you know it’s the right thing to do, you’ll become happier and more satisfied in life.
